Skin & Hair Care

My hair was always rough, think, curly, wavy, and hard to manage. When it gets long it starts to look like a fro.

I recently stopped washing my hair (with shampoo and conditioner), and using only water every couple of days to wash it. This lets hair oils build up and nourish my hair, giving it some shine and softness, allowing me to manage it easier. Shampoo cleans your hair but also strips hair of its natural oils, which help keep hair healthy and strong. Which makes sense since shampoo was introduced in the 20th century, so originally people used soap which didn't strip oils to clean hair; but as water became more mineral dense, it became less effective, so shampoo was used instead.

By cutting out the use of shampoo, you save your hair from being stripped of necessary oils, and you save money by not having to buy shampoo.

After a couple days of not washing your hair, you may notice your hair becomes really greasy, and that's because your hair is used to its oils being stripped away, so it still produces high amount of oils to replenish the oils that have been stripped away. It may take up to 2 weeks for your hair to adjust to being shampoo/conditioner free.

Now to wash your hair without shampoo and condition you can using baking soda and apple cider vinegar.

To clean away dirt and chemical buildup, baking soda is very gentle and effective to use on your hair. 1 Tablespoon of baking soda and 1 cup of water should be fine for most people, but adjust accordingly is needed (too much=dry). Mix the solution and pour it into squeeze bottle, and rub into your scalp to clean away the dirt, and rinse like shampoo.

Now use vinegar counteract any leftover baking soda, while detangling hair and balancing the hair's pH, making it a great replacement for conditioner (it doesn't smell). 1 Tablespoon for 1 cup of water, and pour into a squeeze bottle, and experiment to find out how much you need (too much = too oily). Pour some onto your hair, and rinse out.

You can wash your hair everyday using water, and using the baking soda/apple cider vinegar around once a week. This will give you the hair you always wanted. It's easy to manage, holds to any style without using any products, and has a natural, healthy, shine.

Now for your skin, you should always cleanse as oil builds up throughout the day, leading to clogged pores, causing acne, and making it difficult to shave. Use a non-comedogenic cleanser, so the cleaner wont clog pores. To keep your skin hydrated and vibrant, drinks lots of water, which will improve your skin, hair, and body.

Now before you shave, you should rinse your face with warm water to help open up pores, and use something exfoliate your skin, because smoother skin, and softer hair means a better shave.

Shave in the same direction as hair growth to cause less irritation, and help prevent damage to the hair. Less ingrowns and a smoother, more comfortable shave.

Choosing the right razor can make a difference in the comfort of your shave. A feather blade is the sharpest and provides the closest shave, but can be a little risky and irritating if you don't have the hand for it. Choose a blade you are comfortable with and remember to take your time, and not press to hard, as that can also cause irritation.

Once your done use a moisturizer, or non-alcoholic aftershave that wont dry your skin out, to soothe your skin reduce irritation.
